The
Deanery consists of nine parishes, four of which are situated in
Aylesbury itself with the others being placed to the south of the
County town, ranging from Great Missenden to Long Crendon except for
Winslow which is to the north.
The
Deanery is privileged to have St John Fisher as its Patron Saint , who,
together with St Thomas More, the Patron Saint of the Deanery of High
Wycombe, were martyred for their faith in June 1535. Their “crime” was
to oppose the Act of Succession, the aim of which was to establish
Henry V111 as supreme head of the Church, thus implying a repudiation
of the Pope’s authority.
Regular
meetings of the priests of the Deanery take place. A formal
Constitution is in place which guides the workings of the Deanery
Pastoral Council. Each parish is represented and the Council meets at
least four times a year to discuss topics of general interest, to hear
news of Diocesan activities and to pass on information within the
Deanery parishes. The objective of the latter is to share best practice
and to learn from the experiences of others. It
is hoped that this website will go a stage further in spreading
information related to the Word of God and providing the opportunity
for contact to be widened beyond the confines of the Aylesbury Deanery
of St John Fisher. |
